I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore! Oh ya! |
I promised a simple summary on the Town’s wages and benefits since 2006. I use 2006 because of course this was the final year of that tax & spend mayor, Mayor McKenzie. The best and fairest way to analyse this is to use the StatsCan CPI indexes to adjust the base salaries and benefits to account for cost of living.
In 2006 you and I paid $6.248M in wages and benefits to the staff at Town Hall. Blogger does no allow me (I can’t figure it out) to produce a nice table so please bear with me. Applying CPI to this $6.248M base number we should have had targets as follows;
2007 - $6.385M, 2008 - $6.532M, 2009 - $6.552M, 2010 - $6.670M and 2011 - $6.863M
Please, remember that this is somewhat simplistic in that merit increases are not factored in but you may remember that back in 2006 most of the employees were long-term employees and most likely ‘maxed out’. Here’s the actual numbers. Please watch out for lock-jaw!
2007 - $6.807M, 2008 - $7.025M, 2009 - $7.045M, 2010 - $7.893M and 2011 - $8.585M
For your entertainment pleasure, here are the annual differences.
2007 - $422K, 2008 - $493K, 2009 - $494K, 2010 - $1,223K and 2011 - $1,722
Don’t run for your calculator. The difference is $4,354,000 or an average of $906,800 per year over the five years the Town has been run by a shrewd businessman and his sidekick.
I don’t think I need to say anything more.
Councillor Davis blows a gasket |
Tuesday evening/Wednesday we’ll look at the general town tax levy over those years which will be impacted by the wage and benefit craziness. This will exclude District, Education and Sewer & Water as our Council can’t be held fully accountable for the levy on these items.
Remember the Count character on Sesame Street. AH AH AH One Million AH AH AH . Two million AH AH AH. Three million AH AH AH . Could it be that he has been living in Huntsville under a disguise. |
