Update; Less than 12 hours after posting this little story the problem has been fixed. Our readership is not massive but we do reach those with the desire/ability to effect change. Thank-you for effecting positive change in our community.
The other day I was downtown to get my ears lowered at Jeannie’s & Madelines and I found a parking spot at the little known parking area at Kent Park behind the famous ice cream shop. This little 6-7 car parking lot has never been paved or finished with interlocking stone and is usually awash with massive potholes.
Unfortunately some of the crushed stone has made its way out onto the sidewalk on Brunel Road. As I walked from my car to Brunel I saw a young girl of about six (in flip flops of course) slip on this loose material and badly scrape her knee and start to cry. A nice family outing in Huntsville ruined.
It is funny how small things like this have a way of sticking in your memory. I remember at under 10 years of age anxiously waiting in the family car to go to the annual church picnic. We had no seatbelts and I was sitting forward, with my arm out the window, behind the drivers seat, waiting for my dad to get in the car and drive us off. He closed his door on my fingers. Ouch. Fifty years later I still remember the pain!
There are a number of solutions to this loose gravel situation but the easiest for now might be for the plant watering crews to take the two minutes to sweep the sidewalk here to make it safe. Failing that, the Ice Cream parlour could do that on a daily basis as part of their donation to the community. I can see why the Town is regularly being sued for unsafe conditions.
