Some people thought that my suggestions to attack the financial integrity of the property owners was ‘over the top’. My suggestions had nothing to do with the actual property owners. I would have suggested the same strategy regardless of who the owner was. I have written in this blog on numerous occasions my concern that municipalities do not do enough due diligence to ensure the financial integrity of contractors/developers before they are given approvals and concessions. Yes contractors provide WSIB clearance certificates but that is no guarantee that employee payroll taxes withheld are remitted and corporate/personal taxes are paid in a timely fasshion. If Fednor and Queens Park are helping to fund a project or the municipality is waiving fees surely taxpayers should be comfortable that everyone is paying their fair share of our tax burden.

The Province of Quebec is getting it right targeting the restaurant industry. Check out this story link. Ontario will probably follow suit here. I remember a local pizza place (gone) that had a back door phone number to avoid the head office charges. What are the chances that those sales were never recorded either?
I say again, there is only one taxpayer. Fair is fair.... time to call in the Fair Judges!
